Second, stimulation of Phox2b+ neurons causes downward ribcage movement followed by upward deflection of the ribcage. 1 f.p.s., 1 frame per second. Arrowhead points to one rib. Third, direct comparison of fictive inspiration in preparations lacking the pons with inspiration initiated by stimulation of Phox2b+ neurons. Both fictive inspiration and Phox2b-evoked inspiration are sped up 1.5 times.
